Multimedia R5: Adobe Premiere/ Classic Lightroom/ Photoshop


And this is manifestly the final portfolio about Multimedia for this year. Out of all essentials, this class is personally important to me because It’s all about designing, drawing, editing and producing projects digitally and it is what I’m really passionate about. Just by including this subject in our learning curriculum, it distinguishes us from almost every government school in Cambodia because usually, the skills in Multimedia aren’t really required in their curriculum unless they are in universities when they choose specific fields that involved with Editing software.

Since this is our last round, we wrapped up what we’ve learned so far in this particular year about Adobe Softwares and Programming and read a post about it. What it’s required to be part of the post is a final project that each individual have created which needs to include the skills they’ve acquired the knowledge of this class.

My #1 project: Khmer MUN highlight video

On May 11th and 12th, A group of Cohort 1 hosted an Event called Khmer Model United Nations. This event needs different crews to handle different tasks and I got to be a Press. My job as a Press is to document this 2-day conference and create a video as a reference for this meeting. I included this as one of my final projects because I edited this in Adobe Premiere Pro, which wasn’t a software that I was familiar with, but I wanted to get more understandings of it and wanted to challenge myself. My #2 project: Brandon Woelfel editing concept

Photography is my therapy, hobby and love affair with life. It is what I do when I’m alone, bored or even stressed. I’m not saying I’m really proficient at it because I’m really not, but the more I take pictures, the more ideas come into my mind. It’s another form of creativity. However, when it comes to editing. I found it a little difficult because I didn’t know various of editing looks, so I kept on making the photos look and feel similar, which didn’t tell many stories. Then I came across one of the most amazing Photographers, Brandon Woelfel. He’s talented, creative and based in New York City. Brandon is the father of dreamlike, sprightly portraits with fairy lights, neon colors and lots of bokeh effects. His style makes me want to explore how he gets these looks.

My result:

Science Round 3: Carbon

Carbon is a nonmetal element in group 14 with the atomic number of 6, which has four valence electrons A carbon atom can form bonds with other carbon atoms or with the atoms of other elements. It often forms bonds with hydrogen. The carbon atom in a methane molecule forms bonds with four hydrogen atoms. Proteins, nucleic acids, lipids (cholesterol), carbohydrates, and other molecules essential to life contain carbon. Carbon is present in the atmosphere as carbon dioxide (C02), which makes up approximately 0.04% of the atmosphere.

Black Carbon Snake


What will happen if you mix sugar and baking soda and pour the mixture in the mound of sand that’s soaked with alcohol?



the mixture will burn and turn into a black, solid



  • Baking soda
  • Sugar
  • Alcohol
  • Sand
  • Fire match
  • Aluminum foil
  • Bowl
  • Plate



  • In the plate, mix 1 and a half tablespoons of sugar with 3 tablespoons of baking soda
  • In a separate bowl, wrap it with aluminum foil and fill ¾ of the bowl with sand, then make a basin in the center
  • Soak the sand with alcohol, make sure that the center is extremely saturated
  • Pour the mixture in the basin and drop several drops of alcohol on it
  • Carefully, lit up the match and drop into the bowl


Due to the heat, it breaks the sugar bond (Carbon, Hydrogen, and Oxygen) and turns hydrogen and oxygen into gases, as a result, forming the carbon ash (snake). In the mixture, we added baking soda and when it’s heated, it releases carbon dioxide, which just like what baking soda does, allows the carbon ash to rise up. The role of sand that soaked with alcohol is to distribute the heat, making a continuous and steady fire.


Multimedia Round no.2

Structure of Digital Storytelling:

In this world, there are numerous ways to tell distinct stories: Poems, Movements, Puppets, etc. Nonetheless, we can also do it digitally via animation, music, short films, and photos. We explored different types of them, what are their features, how people make it interactive and what messages do the creators want to tell others.

Pixar Story Structure

After this activity, we had the chance to write our own story using the formula we learned in class, the Pixar Story Structure. And down below is my short story:

Once upon a time, there was a teenage girl named Trisha, living with her busy single mom, Christine. She is the kind of person who loved to go to parties at night and whenever her mother tried to give her some lectures, she hated it and also gave mom a repeated manner, which are staring blankly, rolling eyes and walking past as if no one was there.
Every day, she received a party invitation from her friends to hang out, have some drinks and dance at their houses. Trisha never has dinner with her mom and would always be annoyed by the coughing sound from her mother’s room at night. In the Kitchen cabinets, there are filled with medicines, syrups and whenever she tries to reach out to have a closer look at the medicine bottles, Christine would run to close the cabinet, saying they are some fever and stomachache pills, just in case she needed it. Not only that, but she even locked the cabinet doors so Trisha couldn’t open it anymore.
But one day, when Trisha came back from school, she didn’t her eventful mom around. It seems pretty quiet at home, but Christine left a note for her. It was written, “Sorry honey, mommy is busy at work and will stay at my friend’s house tonight. I’ll be back tomorrow, so just prepare your own dinner and be a good girl, ok?”. Without much concern about her mom, she turned out to be happy.
Because of that, she decided to throw a party at her own house because she never got a chance to do so before. While enjoying the night, a call rang into her phone from an unknown number. After three times ignoring the call, she picked it up annoyingly, but after hearing what the speaker said, she suddenly fell on the floor with flows of tears dropping. The contact was actually from a nurse, asking whether she is Mrs. Christin’s kin because there’s a patient with this name, fainting right in front of the hospital. Christine was diagnosed with Asthma four years already, but she never had a proper treatment.
Because of that, Trisha ran straight outside the house to find a taxi to go to the hospital to see her mother. However, when she arrived, the doctor had already prepared for a surgery because her mom is in a very dangerous state and required a emergency treatment. Trisha had to wait outside for a four-hour surgery procedure to finish.
Until finally, two nurses pushed out the patient’s bed and moved it into the recovery room, and behind them, there was Trisha, crying out loud like a baby and hoping to touch her mom. After three rest, Christine finally woke up. When Trisha saw it, she ran to hug her and apologize for every single mistake she had done before and promised to be her mother’s good daughter from that day on.

Photography Basics:

In this round, we had such amazing lessons about how to use cameras and some basic photography shots. We also learned about the Exposure triangle, which I used to doubt about for months. Before taking this class, I thought to myself that we could just use the auto mode and didn’t have to check any other function. But now I came to realize that I can play around with different modes and try to challenge myself with this equipment, which in fact helps me improve my skills.

Videography Basics:

Not only did we get to know more about photography, but we also delved into quite a similar field; Videography. We tried out some tips on how to keep the camera steady, which microphone is better in certain situations, etc.

Round 1 – Multimedia

This year, I started to learn more about this serviceable program called Adobe, which is full of software for editing pictures, creating graphic design, making books layout, etc. But before getting into all of these kinds of stuff, Cinda (our facilitator) taught us about researching skills and the two types of sources such as Primary source and Secondary source.

Primary sources are sources that were recorded that the time when certain things happened. Some examples for it would be Diaries, Newspapers, Interviews, Letters, and Photos.

Diversely, Secondary sources are sources that were recorded sometimes after the events happened. For example: Biography, Book reviews, Articles about some histories and Reports.

Each of the students was required to pick any topic of their interest to do some research on. At that instant, my topic was about Public speaking, so I have to find a picture from back in the Roman period when Cicero (Roman orator) publicly denounced Catiline (Roman senator) as guilty. This picture was painted at the time when this peculiar event took place, which makes it a primary source.

Consequently, I began to do more research based on the Secondary sources available on the internet to find the credible ones. After finishing all the work, then I had to insert all the information in a software called Adobe InDesign in order to create a poster which was our homework for the week. We need to apply all the knowledge we learned about Adobe program into this project. By doing so, it required to have at least two pictures. The first picture would be the one that was edited with five changes in Adobe Lightroom and another one would be the finished product after applying five functions I’ve learned about Adobe Photoshop. Each change gives us one point. The more points we get, the better our learning get.

This learning experience was very tremendous. It helped me learn by doing it and not writing it down because sometimes, taking notes doesn’t help me much, but practicing it physically and visually helps a lot. This is just the beginning, yet I get me interested in this field already, so I’m hoping for new and exciting lessons in the next round.

Publishing the Geography book of the Cambodia

Geography book of Cambodia is the whole cohort project that Junior students have started since the beginning of year two and is also an exploration that I have been working on for a whole year now. In our second school year, Juniors were divided into different groups to different regions of Cambodia to do researches on and go on trips to discover the peculiar beauty of the country.

After spending 28 weeks on collecting the information for every province, we spent 7 weeks on editing the contents, matching the two languages (Khmer and English) together, citing sources and inserting it into a software called Adobe Indesign that is used to create layouts and chapters for the book. During the exploration, we had read through the chapters, but we just didn’t feel like it’s enough, it feels like we should insert more student’s voices into the book. Hence, we came out with an idea of having students writing down their observation, fun facts about the places and things readers/visitors should watch out for whenever they go there. We decided to call them as Add-ons.

Since the exploration couldn’t end as expected (due at the end of our second school year), 10 students, including me are working on the final step which is to load all the contents and add-ons to the program. Creating a book isn’t only about putting all kinds of stuff in and we are done, we need to focus on every little detail of the book and to be honest, this part is the stumbling block.

I really hope that this book will be published soon so we can hand them to government schools all around Cambodia in the purpose of sharing basic pieces of knowledge about their’s provinces, what places were hidden in their area and how they want their region to look like in the future.
